2011 Chefs On Parade
2011 Chefs On Parade
Intricately decorated professional chef coats will be on display throughout the nation all year through Chefs on Parade. We are proud to showcase these pieces of art in exhibits online as well as to the public.
You will have the opportunity to become the proud owner of one of these works of art, with all proceeds benefiting Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation. The Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation is an organization which elevates the national consciousness of caregiving and fosters a culture of healthy caregivers impacted by chronic illness through programming, universal access to resources, and behavioral research.
These wonderful and fascinating chef coats, created by Brookdale residents, family members, and associates, were inspired by the artists’ world travels, meaningful places, and fond memories highlighting the “Amazing Places of the World.”
“The Chef Coats on Parade must truly be seen to be believed,” said Joska J. W. Hajdu, senior vice president of dining services for Brookdale Senior Living. “They are genuinely pieces of art. The talent and passion of our residents are proudly displayed through this exhibit.”
Please note the current dates of the traveling exhibit with the premier kick off in Chicago on Friday, January 21 2011 at the Devonshire in Hoffman Estates. As the exhibit travels all year long. Chefs on Parade 2011 was produced by Brookdale’s Optimum Life team and the Culinary Arts Institute at Brookdale, a professional development program designed to enhance the food preparation and presentation skills of Brookdale chefs.
The Story
Chef Coat #1 – “Woodland Hideaway” was designed by Barbara Washburn who is a resident at Chambrel at Island Lake in Longwood, Florida. Barbara who loves to paint the images of the world around her took her inspiration for this design depicting a scenic valley and stream from one of her favorite vacation spots located in Northern Georgia.
Chef Coat #2 – “Mountains Majesty” was designed and created by residents, family members and associates at Parkplace in Denver, Colorado. The beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains that that can be seen from the community was the inspiration for this design which illustrates some of the mountain ranges that will be visited throughout this year’s Celebrations series - Amazing Places of the World
Chef Coat #3 – “Devonshire Destinations” was designed and created by residents and associates at the Devonshire of Hoffman Estates, in Illinois. This design reflects the many Amazing Places in the United States spanning from the East Coast to the West Coast. The most unusual “amazing place” was the idea of “the heart of the Devonshire residents” which is reflected in the collar of the jacket.
Chef Coat #4 – “Viva Nashville” was designed and created by residents and associates at Cumberland at Green Hills in Nashville, Tennessee. The Cumberland at Green Hills is nestled within the town of Nashville which was the grand inspiration. The coat is made to look like Grand Ole Opry attire and represents the city with its memorable skyline, a studded guitar, and of course cowboy fringe.
Chef Coat #5 – “Enchanted Lifestyle” was designed and created by residents and associates at Freedom Pointe at The Villages in The Villages, Florida. This design depicts their own community as one of the “Amazing Places of the World”. The Villages was conceived over 50 years ago, with a variety of beautiful homes, lifestyle and amenities that are enjoyed by residents each and every day.
Chef Coat #6 – “Venetian Romance” was designed and created by residents and associates at Trillium Place in Columbus, Ohio. The inspiration for this design was the January theme for the Celebrations series - Amazing Places of the World: Venice Waterways in Italy, imagining the gondola boatman gliding us up the Grand Canal to the Rialto Bridge, pointing out the soaring, enduring architecture.
Chef Coat #7 – “Serengeti Sunset” was designed and created by residents and associates from River Bay Club in Quincy, Massachusetts. The inspiration for this design was the August theme for the Celebrations series - Amazing Places of the World: The Serengeti in Tanzania and trying to capture the trees, animals, colors, patterns, and textures that are alive during sunset when the brilliant sky is the perfect backdrop
Chef Coat #8– “Cupcake Delights” was designed and created by residents and associates from Inn at the Park in Irvine, California. The inspiration for this design came from the idea there is no wrong way to decorate a cupcake. This design allowed for each of the residents to be able to contribute a custom design of their own creation.
Chef Coat #9– “Wasabi Chopsticks” was created by Devan Sisemore and her granddaughters from Glenwood Gardens in Bakersfield, California. Devan took her inspiration from the all of the Themes of the Celebrations series - Amazing Places of the World and drew upon her many memories and the images she saw during her travels in throughout Japan.
Chef Coat #10– “Awesome Africa” was designed and created by the residents from Chambrel in Williamsburg, Virginia. The residents took their inspiration from slides in which one of the resident artists, Gerry, had shared from her safari trips. Gerry favors oils in her personal paintings and followed suit with the opportunity to depict her fellow residents’ visions onto the chef coat.
Chef Coat #11– “Paradise in Florida” was designed and created by residents and associates from Freedom Village Bradenton, in Bradenton, Florida. The inspiration for this design which includes some of the native birds and flowers of Florida came from the artist’s portrayal that “living in Florida is just like living in paradise”.
Chef Coat #12 – “Wondrous Sites” was designed and created by residents and associates Freedom Village Bradenton, in Bradenton, Florida. This design depicts the Tree of Life, which lends its branches and roots as a foundation for the display of the “Twelve Amazing Places of the World”. The artists felt the coins of those amazing places made meaningful buttons and were used for the buttons.
